More personality observations

Stacey and I were talking about the girls early (somehow they seem to be our focus these days) and Stacey pointed out how there are some interesting dualities in their personalities.

Mei is a little shy and it takes more work to elicit a smile from her. She is pretty focused and does not necessarily initiate connections with others. She is content to sit back and observe and assess what is going on. At the same time, she is more likely than Fen to seek our affection and comforting, so she does need that interaction on a different level.

Fen is quite social and will immediately offer a smile to people nearby, assuming she is in a good mood. She laughs pretty easily and likes to be entertained and to entertain (we have a 5-minute video of her rolling around the bed blowing bubbles with her puckered lips and loving life). At the same time, she is definitely an instigator when she and Mei are near each other. She likes to reach out and pull big handfuls of Mei's hair for the entertainment value.

It is so much fun to continue to get to know them and to build our trust. A couple afternoons ago I was sitting on the bed and Mei started playing a game of sitting up and then flopping back down on my lap. Then sitting up again and doing it over. It was nice to have her feeling comfortable with that. Fen also likes to have a good cuddle, laying her head into the space where your neck and shoulder meets when she is tired.

Our refrain is "how did we get so lucky to get these two kids."
