We just returned from a group dinner with a number of other families who are adopting through our agency. It was nice to make the connections since we had only met a couple of other families in passing.
When we began this process more than seven years ago we had no idea of how it would ultimately play out. For one thing, we anticipated we would have a child in less than two years. At the time we also made a decision that has had a major impact, by deciding to indicate we would be willing to accept siblings, if available. Obviously, that has turned out to be an incredible blessing, but it was quite unexpected since it is so rare.
In speaking with other families tonight it was interesting to hear how each had a different story about how their adoption unfolded differently than expected, but also wonderfully. Many of the children who are going home this week have some health issues that will require treatment when they get home. Other families ended up adopting multiple children who were not related. In every case, it is obvious that each family feels that things have happened as they should.
It is great to see so many children going to incredible homes.
Happy fathers day Nick!
